RETURN OF THE HYENA IN HARIDWAR- VIDEO FOOTAGE

In a revealing footage disclosed by Shri.S.T.S.Lepcha IFS, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests from the Jhilmil jheel Conservation Reserve in Haridwar Forest Division, the presence of the Striped Hyena has been confirmed in this region after a gap of several years. A Hyena was rescued from a pit a few years back in the same region, but was seen going to the adjoining Chilla range of Rajaji National Park.  Now this is a fresh sighting in Haridwar Forest Division after a long gap. The return of the Hyena is attributed to the conservation efforts of the Uttarakhand Forest Department. In addition to strict forest protection measures, habitat improvement works like the removal of invasive weeds like Lantana is slowly starting to show its outcome. Hyenas have also been found in the camera trap of Nandhaur Wildlife Sanctuary in the eastern parts of the State. The video footage is given below:
